Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 10x13-inch baking dish. (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a medium bowl, beat together cream cheese, 1/3 cup sugar, and 1 egg with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Set aside. (5 minutes)

03

Step

In a saucepan, combine water, cocoa powder, and butter. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until butter is melted and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat. (8 minutes)

04

Step

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, remaining 2 cups sugar, baking soda, and salt. Add remaining 2 eggs, sour cream, and vanilla extract. Gradually beat in the chocolate mixture until just combined. Do not overmix. (7 minutes)

05

Step

Pour batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading evenly. Spoon cream cheese mixture over the batter in dollops. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the cream cheese mixture into a marbled pattern. Sprinkle butterscotch chips evenly over the top. (10 minutes)

06

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached. Let cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares. (35 minutes)

For a richer flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
Be careful not to overbake the brownies, as they will become dry.
For a cleaner cut, chill the brownies in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before cutting.
To make these gluten-free, substitute gluten-free all-purpose flour blend for the regular flour.
