Follow The Directions

01

Step

Gently rinse the fish fillets under cold running water, then pat them completely dry with paper towels. Drizzle generously with lemon juice and season both sides with salt. (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a shallow bowl, whisk together the flour and Chinese five-spice powder until evenly combined. Dredge each fish fillet in the flour mixture, ensuring both sides are fully coated. Gently shake off any excess flour. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Heat the canola oil and sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering. Carefully place the fish fillets in the hot skillet, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. (2 minutes)

04

Step

Pan-fry the fish for 2 to 3 minutes on the first side, until golden brown and crispy. Use two spatulas to carefully flip the fillets. Continue cooking for another 2 to 3 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork and is cooked through. (5 minutes)

For an extra crispy crust, allow the flour-dredged fillets to rest for 5-10 minutes before pan-frying.
Adjust the amount of five-spice powder to your preference. For a milder flavor, use 1/2 teaspoon.
Serve immediately with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and your favorite sides, such as rice, roasted vegetables, or a simple salad.
