For a richer flavor, use dark brown sugar. To prevent the loaf from sticking, line the bottom of the pan with parchment paper. If you don't have buttermilk, you can make a substitute by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to 1 cup of milk. Let it stand for 5 minutes before using. Store the cooled loaf in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
