Follow The Directions

01

Step
11 mins

Bring a large pot of generously salted water to a rolling boil. Add the fusilli pasta and cook according to package directions, about 10-12 minutes, until al dente.

02

Step
4 mins

While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced shallot and sauté until softened and translucent, about 3-5 minutes. Be careful not to brown the shallot.

03

Step
2 mins

Add the drained black olives, chopped sun-dried tomatoes, and drained capers to the skillet. Stir well to combine and cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

04

Step
1 mins

Drain the cooked pasta well, reserving about 1/2 cup of the pasta water. Add the pasta to the skillet with the olive mixture and toss to coat thoroughly. If the pasta seems dry, add a little of the reserved pasta water to moisten.

05

Step
0 mins

Gently fold in the flaked tuna, being careful not to break it up too much. Season with freshly ground black pepper to taste.

06

Step
0 mins

Remove from heat and stir in the grated Pecorino Romano cheese. Serve immediately, garnished with additional Pecorino Romano cheese and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, if desired.

For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes to the skillet along with the shallot.
If you don't have Pecorino Romano cheese, Parmesan cheese makes a fine substitute.
Feel free to experiment with other types of pasta, such as penne or rotini.
Fresh parsley or basil, chopped, makes a lovely garnish.
