Follow The Directions

01

Step
1 hrs

Prepare gelatin according to package directions, substituting 1 cup cold water with 1 cup crushed ice. Place gelatin into the freezer until it reaches a slightly thickened, almost set consistency. (Approximately 45-60 minutes)

02

Step
5 mins

In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and lump-free. Gently fold the thickened gelatin into the cream cheese until well combined.

03

Step
10 mins

Add the cottage cheese, drained fruit cocktail, pineapple chunks, mandarin oranges, diced apple, sliced banana, halved maraschino cherries, and toasted walnuts to the gelatin mixture. Stir gently to distribute all ingredients evenly.

04

Step
2 hrs

Pour the mixture into a decorative mold or serving dish. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until completely set and firm. (At least 2 hours, preferably overnight)

05

Step
2 mins

To unmold, briefly dip the mold in warm water. Invert onto a serving platter. Slice and serve chilled.

For a brighter presentation, consider using a clear glass bowl or mold.
Toasting the walnuts enhances their flavor and adds a pleasant crunch.
Feel free to substitute other fruits based on your preferences and what's in season. Berries or grapes would be excellent additions.
If you don't have crushed ice, simply use very cold water to achieve a similar effect.
For a less sweet salad, reduce the amount of gelatin mix slightly.
Ensure the cottage cheese is well-drained to prevent a watery consistency.
