For an extra touch of flavor, add 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts or pecans to the batter. Store the muffins in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. For a richer flavor, use brown butter instead of melted butter. These muffins freeze well. Wrap them individually in plastic wrap and store them in a freezer bag for up to 2 months. Thaw at room temperature before serving.
